6/30/09
Fished with Bobber. Rain, thunder and lightning at 5:30, so we went for breakfast to wait out the storm. Started
fishing at 7am. No hits until about 7:45 ...caught 1 small Salmon. About 8:15 it started to rain again. We caught 3
small Lakers 18" to 19" while it was raining (about 15 minutes) from 8:30 to 9am ...nothing, pulled up and went in.
6/29/09
Fished KBF 5:30 to 8:30. Slow again today. We had 5 hits and landed 3 Lakers. All came on bait behind a flasher
and cowbells on the bottom.
6/28/09
Fished with Bobber today...5:30 to 8:15am. Fishing was slower than yesterday. We did not mark many fish or bait.
Techniques that worked yesterday failed me today. We caught 2 Lakers & 2 small Salmon all on R & R spoons.
6/27/09
Charter aboard the KBF with Dennis Petinko & Crew. I remember names of Debbie & Gus, but the fourth name
draws a blank. The catching was slow compared to yesterday, but we were able to boat 7 Lakers from 17" to 21"
long. The fish were hitting just about anything as long as it had a little piece of sawbelly on it. We fished from
5:30am to 9:30am.
6/26/09
Charter aboard the KBF with Steve and Matt Connelly....5:30am to 10 am. We went 13 for 22. We had to take a 20
min. or so break onshore due to a thunderstorm about 6:20am. The fish came from 30' down to 100' on Dipsy Fly
combo early and downriggers fished with spoons, flasher & fly and cowbells with peanuts.
6/25/09
Fished with Bobber 5:30am to 8:30am. The lake has turned over and we found the Thermal Cline has set up. The
surface temp was 67.6F, 10' down to 45' it was 66.9 to 66.0 at 50' it was 50F, a 16 degree drop. We caught &
released 11 Lakers . All were caught at 45' to 55'.
6/24/09
Fished KBF 5:30 to 8:30am 4 Lakers 2 1/2 to 4 lbs. Biggest 23", one 22", 4 1/2 lb Landlock Salmon. Salmon came
on R& R Spoon at 40' on downrigger. Lakers came on Dipsy Spindoctor Fly with 150' of wire out. See photo of
Salmon in Gallery.
6/23/09
Charter with Bobber 5:30 to 9:20. 1 Laker and 1 small Brown Trout for 4 hits. No fish, no bait. No bananas for an
excuse for today. Hard north wind yesterday afternoon and we had it start up again at 7:30am. This a probably a
contributing factor.
6/22/09
Charter aboard KBF with Don Perrotti Family and Friends. Fished 5:30 to 9:30am. 6 Lakers for 14 hits. Fish were
widely scattered and all over the water column. We caught or had hits on every pole from bottom at 140' to top
lines. Biggest Laker was about 4 lbs. Lost 2 about the same size behind the boat. Most of the fish came on
sawbelllies behind flashers or cowbells.
6/21/09
Charter aboard KBF. 5:30 to 10:30am. With Doug Babcock and his son, Doug. The day was a charter captain's
nightmare. We marked all kinds of fish, but couldn't make them bite hard enough to get into the boat. We lost 3 or
4 Lakers and only got one in the boat. We caught and released 7 or 8 Salmon. Noticed when we came in that
there was a banana peel to be discarded. There is an old fisherman's tale that if there is a banana on the boat,
fishing luck will be very poor. Maybe that was our problem.
6/20/09
Charter aboard Bobber's boat. Part of a Sunday wedding party. The groom and 3 of his college classmates.
Fished 8am to 12:30pm. Everybody aboard was able to land a couple fish....Lakers or Salmon.
6/19/09

north. I think we caught fish on all the rods. We fished 2 flat lines, 2 Dipsy poles and 3 downriggers. Had no pattern
as to color or bait type. 6 Lakers , 6 or 7 small Landlock Salmon.
6/18/09

6/17/09

bar stake in the middle. 4 Lakers all on Dipsy poles.
6/16/09
Fished KBF 5:30 to 9:30am. 4 Lakers and 1 Landlock Salmon. Took off from the marina and ran north of Urbana on
the west side. Fished from there to 1 mile north of Lakeside Restaurant on the west side across the lake to the
Bluff. Followed the Bluff around going 1/2 mile or so up Penn Yan arm and back down the east side to the Elms. We
marked a lot of fish, we didn't mark much bait. Highlight of the day was losing a Rainbow in the 4 to 5 lb range after
it had jumped 5 times and tore line off against the drag.
6/15/09
Fished with Bobber 5:30 to 8am. 3 Lakers. Fish have scattered on the south end. We worked as far north as the
elevator about 3 miles north on the west side. No bait marked....very few fish.
6/14/09
Charter aboard KBF with Don Space and 3 of his co-workers. We fished from 6am to 2pm. We were able to boat 9
Lakers and 1 Landlock Salmon. Everyone on the trip lost at least 1 fish and more. Dipsy poles kept us busy for
awhile, but as the day went by I had to resort to cowbells and peanuts set 2 or 3 feet off the bottom to catch fish.
6/13/09
Fished with Bobber 5:30 to 9am. 3 Lakers all on downrigger R & R spoon set @ 65'.

Fished with Bobber. Fish scarce again today. We landed 1 Laker, 1 small Salmon, and one 13" Brown Trout. All
the fish came on the same R & R spoon set at 30' on downrigger. The other 3 poles were idle. Fished 5:30 to
8:30am.
6/10/09
Fished KBF 5:30 to 9am 5 Lakers, 4 Salmon. Had 15 hits....very overcast until about 8am. Caught fish on all the

6/9/09
Fished with Bobber. Thunderstorms over night and going on at 5:30am. We went for breakfast and headed out on
the lake around seven after the storm had passed. Fish were far and few between. We had only 3 hits and caught

bottom in 130' of water.

them by the time we quit for the day. Zigzagged back and forth across the lake from the south end to Two Mile

graph. We had no hits. I threw everything but the kitchen sink at them to no avail. Cowbells and a peanut on
bottom for more than an hour and still no hits. Spiney water fleas are terrible. These things take the fun out of
fishing.
7/2/09

closer to noon. The fish came all on flies behind Spindoctors or Flashers.
8/26/09

that was it for the trip.
8/25/09

to 7:00 to 8:00am.
8/20/09
Charter aboard KBF with Adam Dorenter and Diane Castronuovo 6:00am to 10:00am. We did better than
yesterday going 5 for 7, but most of the action was stuffed into a 45 minute period from 7:15 to 8:00. Had hits on
all the rods at all depths . Go figure.
8/19/09
Charter aboard KBF with the Glen Rannick Family. 6am to 10am. Very slow today...all kinds of bait and fish on the
south end and east side of the lake, but I could only entice 1 Laker and 1 Smallmouth bass to join us on the boat.
Cowbells & Flatfish in the mud didn't even work. It was a nice morning and we had a good time even though the
fish did not cooperate. See Gallery.
8/18/09
Charter aboard KBF with Rob Unruh & Crew 6am to 11am. After a very slow start, only 1 fish in the first hour, we
managed to go 5 for 9. A couple of the fish we could see behind the boat, but they pulled off. The fish were more
scattered than yesterday and deeper. We had one fish above 40'. The rest were 55' and deeper. The boys
aboard did a good job of reeling in the fish. See Gallery.
8/17/09
Fished with Bobber 5:30 to 9am, 5 for 8. All Lakers kept 2 for dinner. Marked and caught Lakers as high as 30'
today. Same baits Spindoctors & flies.
8/16/09
Fished KBF in the VSM weekend tourney 5:30am to 9:15am. 4 for 6 All Lakers, but not big enough to weigh
in....need to beat 5lb 8 oz.
8/15/09
Worked charter on Bobber's boat 6am to 10am. We went 5 for 8 with Lakers, one 12" Brown Trout and a keeper
Salmon. The three young boys 9 to 11 year olds were all able to land fish.
8/14/09
Worked charter for Bobber 6:00 to 10:00 am with John Fisher. We had 3 hits and were able to land them all. The
fishfinder was blank this morning and we never did find any amount of fish to try to circle back on and catch!

Worked charter for Bobber 6:00 to 10:00am with John Fisher. We went 4 for 8 with 2 Smallmouth Bass, 1 Laker
and 1 Brown Trout. Laker was 3 1/2 to 4 lbs, Brown was 5 1/2 lbs. All the fish came from 40' to 60' down. All on
flies behind Spindoctors on E-chips Flashers.
8/12/09
Charter aboard KBF with Hank Kaszen and Steve Almonsi. 6:00 to 10:00am. We landed 6 Lakers and 2
Smallmouth Bass and lost a couple more fish. The bite was spread out over the whole trip. The hot bait early was
Spindoctor Fly Combo and later as the overcast skies broke to sunshine, they started hitting a silver & brass
spoon. Almost all the fish came from below 50'. See Gallery for pics.
8/11/09
Charter aboard KBF with the Joe Shipley family. 6:00 to 10:00am. We went 5 for 8. We started off with 3 Lakers
before 6:30am and as happened yesterday, the fish shut down. We had a few more on and put 2 more in the boat
before the trip was done. I used a lot of different colors and combos, but didn't find the secret. See Gallery for
pics.
8/10/09
Charter aboard KBF with Nils, Luke & Levi Anderson and Grandpa Bob Bussman. 6 to 10am. We started out with
a bang with a fish in the box by 6:20am. We caught another small 14" Laker and lost a couple behind the boat.
Luke pulled in another keeper about 9: 40am. It made for a tough trip. We had a lot of thunder & lightning during
the night which I believe put the fish down. See Gallery for Luke & Grandpa Bob's fish.

Fished KBF with my wife, Mary, in the 3rd annual Keith Cagle Memorial Tournament. This tournament is sponsored
by Village Shores Marina and Bait & Tackle. The tournament was started by Keith's dad, Bil to set up a
scholarship fund for Bath & Dundee High School students. We did not place, but caught 8 Lakers, 1Rainbow (2
1/2 lbs) on Friday, 7 Lakers on Saturday and 9 Lakers on Sunday. All three mornings were foggy early. We fished
from the south end up to about 3 miles on Friday. Saturday from Snug Harbor to Gold Seal. Sunday from the
marina to the Bluff. There were around fifty people entered. We all got a chicken BBQ after final weigh ins on
Sunday and I think just about everyone won a door prize, everything from rod & reels to dinner gift certificates.
The biggest fish was a 7lb 7oz Brown Trout. Everyone had a good time and are looking forward to next year.

Charter aboard KBF with Eric Kiszkiel. Dana,Shawn & Bob McMinn, and David Balfour. Forecast for today was
bad enough that I tried to talk Eric into not going, but as usual the weatherman was wrong again, and the trip was
not too bad weather wise. The predicted 15mph north winds did not materialize and the temp was around 50F.
We went 6 for 10. Everyone had ahold of 2 fish and everyone got one to the boat. Nice way to end the charter
season on Keuka.

Bar 29.859 54F Charter aboard KBF with the Dropik Charter 9am to 1pm. Sorry to say, but this was the first
charter in 5 seasons to go bust on the KBF. We marked fish, but very little bait. The majority of the fish were
hugging the bottom. Threw everything at them, but had only 1 hit and that was weak at that. I don't think we
even got it started up and it was gone. The day was nice after a heavy fog burned off and the leaves are starting
to get pretty.
10/2/09

Hello from Sunny Florida!
We have only fished one day this fall down here due to weather and a busy schedule. We spent Thanksgiving in
Hawaii with our youngest son and family and have just returned from a Christmas cruise with our oldest son and
family.
On the cruise, we went fishing in Cozumel, Mexico aboard the 32' Marlin Rayado with Capt. Martin and Mate
Alberto. The weather was very overcast and windy, a very sloppy boat ride. We were aboard with 3 other people:
Smitty, Carl and Jim. Smitty & Carl were shipmates of ours from the Carnival Freedom and Jim was from the
Carnival Liberty. The mate set up a rotation of 10 minutes in the chair than switch until someone caught a fish,
then that person was out. We were into the second rotation and had not had a hit. Mary finally pulled out her straw
fishing hat and immediately, Smitty had a fish on and in the boat. As the rotation continued everyone, but Jim was
able to get a fish in the boat. We told him he had to stay in the chair until he got it right. After another two misses, Jim
finally landed a fish, which happened to be the biggest fish of the trip. As the last fish was put in the cooler our fishing
time had run out and we had to head back to port, a very bumpy 35 minute ride.
Everyone had a good time. The fish caught were barracuda from 12 lbs to 30lbs. We put some pics in the Gallery.
Until next time.....
Tight Lines and Take a kid fishing!
